Geriatric dentistry is dental care shaped around the needs of older adults — slower-paced, gentler, and planned with the rest of your health in mind.
As we age, teeth wear, gums recede, dry mouth becomes more common and old fillings, crowns and dentures reach the end of their life. Many seniors also manage medical conditions or take medication that affects the mouth. None of this means you have to put up with discomfort or a smile you would rather hide.
At A M Dental we take the time to understand your health history, work around mobility or anxiety, and keep appointments comfortable. Treatment can be as simple as a careful clean and a denture adjustment, or as complete as replacing a full arch of teeth on implants — always at a pace that suits you, and only what you genuinely need.

Many of our older patients arrive nervous, or have not seen a dentist in years. We explain everything in plain language, go step by step, and treat every senior the way we would want our own parents looked after.

Geriatric Dentistry, answered.
In most cases yes, with the right precautions. Tell us about your conditions and every medication you take, and we will plan treatment accordingly — and liaise with your doctor if needed.
Age itself is not the deciding factor — general health and bone are. Many of our implant patients are in their sixties, seventies and beyond. A scan tells us quickly whether implants are a good option for you.
Not always. Gums change shape over time, and often a reline or adjustment is enough. If the denture is worn or damaged we will say so honestly, and talk you through the options including implant-supported dentures.
Of course. We are happy for a son, daughter or carer to sit in, ask questions and help remember the aftercare instructions.
